Revell 1/48 B-17G Flying Fortress
About the B-17 Flying Fortress
The B-17G Flying Fortress represents the pinnacle of Boeing's legendary heavy bomber design, and by the time the G-model rolled off the production lines in 1943, it had become the backbone of the American strategic bombing campaign over Europe.
The G variant brought a critical upgrade over its predecessors — a chin turret mounted beneath the nose that finally gave the aircraft a way to defend itself against the head-on attacks that Luftwaffe pilots had learned to exploit against earlier B-17 models. With that addition, the Flying Fortress lived up to its name more than ever, bristling with thirteen .50 caliber machine guns covering virtually every angle of approach.
This model kit, Revell's 1/48 scale B-17G, gives modelers a chance to tackle one of the most iconic and visually impressive aircraft of the entire war. At this scale, the Flying Fortress is a genuinely substantial model — this is a big airplane, and 1/48 does real justice to its commanding presence.
You get enough surface area to have serious fun with weathering and paint chipping, and enough structural detail to make the build genuinely engaging from start to finish.
The four Wright Cyclone radial engines alone are a satisfying sub-assembly, and getting that iconic olive drab and neutral grey scheme right is one of those deeply rewarding modeling challenges that keeps you at the workbench late into the evening.
